 |
CAMPING AND HIKING ITINERARY OUTLINE | DAY 1 | Meet your host at Namibia’s International airport and transfer to Windhoek for a quick tour of its sights & sounds before settling into a comfortable B&B on the outskirts of Windhoek.
Relax after your long flight and acclimatize to Namibia. Afternoon at own
leisure until dinner. | | DAY 2 | Travel along the perimeter of the Khomas Hochland (our central highlands) towards the edge of the escarpment. As you reach the edge of the Escarpment, experience the endless vistas of the Namib desert at your feet. Descend into the desert with lunch en-route. Arrive at your camping site mid- to late afternoon.
Late afternoon,
explore the geologically historic Sesriem Gorge. During camp dinner, keep an eye open for Gemsbok (Oryx) or Cape Fox, visiting the camp. When the campfire has been reduced to embers, look up, and experience the true Southern Skies! | | DAY 3 | Be woken before sunrise to drive out along the Tsauchab River Valley towards some of the highest sand dunes in the world! On descent, enjoy a picnic brunch
under age-old Camel thorn trees. Back in camp, after a short siesta
during the hottest part of the day, you are free to explore your immediate
surroundings on short nature hiking trails. End the day with sundowners in your hand, and tranquillity in your heart. | | DAY 4 | Move further south into the Namib and see the majestic, lone mountain towering over the flat surrounding landscape.
Near its base, you will spend the first night in a camping site, experiencing how the silence can seem absolute to the human ear.
Should time allow, you may join a guided hiking trail into the dunes
to explore life in the desert at close quarters. Around sunset, listen to the choir of barking geckos, their voices fading away into the distance. | | DAY 5 | Today you will understand the Namib, and recognize the saying: "The desert love those, who love the desert". You will fully realize why we invited you here, and you will appreciate the affect on your quintessence.
A hiking trip right into the Mountain, where you will end your
day with overnight camping under the stars. | | DAY 6 | As you leave the Namib today, travel through the wide gravel expanse of southern Namibia towards
your first stop on the perimeter of the Kalahari desert - at an ancient fossil site
- for the night. | | DAY 7 |
To shorten travelling time and gradually become accustomed to your new
environment - the Kalahari - there will be no camping tonight.
Instead, relax in a small, Kalahari Country Lodge. Subject to
available time, either a guided hiking trail or a Game drive might
await you. | | DAY 8 |
After breakfast, continue towards
your first Kalahari
camping site. Late afternoon you may either join a sundowners-
or a Cheetah drive. Allow the call of the Jackal to lull you to sleep. | | DAY 9 |
Start your day with
either an early morning scenic drive, or a guided Game viewing hike to a
wildlife viewing hide. You may end your day with whichever activity you did
not participate in yesterday - the sundowners- or Cheetah drive. | | DAY 10 |
Continue towards an eastern Kalahari Game- & Guest Farm where you can join a
true Bushman tracker on a nature hike. Learn how the San had acquired
their generations-old survival skills. A demonstration of traditional
Bushman dancing is also included. | | DAY 11 | For your last night in Namibia, you will today arrive at the site of the longest cave in Namibia (4,5 km), a guided cave tour
is included for those who are interested. | | DAY 12 | Subject to flight departure time, you may have some time this morning for a final,
guided nature hiking trail in the surrounding Kalahari environment. Transfer to Namibia’s International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight. |
