Top | HORSE RIDING TRAIL - IN THE KAOKOVELD WILDERNESS OF NAMIBIA, AFRICA | |
A 12-DAY SAFARI, WITH A 10 DAY HORSE TRAIL THROUGH THE KAOKOVELD WILDERNESS OF NAMIBIA. Experience the thrill of the wilderness under unpolluted skies - seeking out the elusive desert Elephants!
Simply entering this wilderness area of Namibia's Kaokoland, is already an experience. Doing so on a horse trail, with prospects of encountering a myriad species of wildlife along the way, or Black Rhinos - the only place on earth where they still roam free - and even the famous, but elusive, Namibian desert Elephants, is the stuff memories are made of! Experience and confidence is so high, that a 50% refund of the trail cost is offered, if NO desert Elephants are encountered along the trail! This safari will start at the International airport of Namibia, and end there again 12 days later. With the horse trail taking place in a wilderness area, accommodation is non-existent. Therefore, accommodation during the trail will be entirely a camping experience, with everything you need provided. (Except for your personal effects!) ONE VERY IMPORTANT PROVISO APPLIES! The area where this Horse trail takes place is not simply a wilderness region where anyone can come and go as they please, entry & use is protected by Government Concession. (Conservation of Namibia's eco-systems and exploitation of natural resources are enshrined in our Constitution). Therefore, although the Hospitality Association of Namibia protects their members by a regulation that requires full payment of reservations 30 days prior to arrival, the official booking of this safari should ALWAYS be well in advance. This is to enable sufficient time for the necessary application to Government by the operator, and to secure the concession. (Each entry needs to be individually applied for and negotiated).

- Suntan lotion, walking shoes, headgear and light clothing are recommended for riders on the horse trail.
- Although no restrictions are placed on the time of year at which this safari can take place, it is highly recommended that the cooler months be chosen. Even being in this area during the summer months, can be very uncomfortable. Attempting a horse trail, will be taxing on both horse and rider. We recommend the very earliest to be mid-March and no later than mid-October. Anything in between is fine, with May to August being winter - lovely warm days, but could have cold to very cold nights during June/July.
- Cameras and sufficient film/memory cards is vital (no shops or stores around), and a small pair of binoculars plus good quality sun shades are recommended.
