THE NAMIB
DESERT CAMERA A 10-DAY
PHOTOGRAPHIC- /
FAMILY SAFARI
ACCOMMODATED - SELF DRIVE |
 |
DAY TO DAY ITINERARY FOR INDEPENDENT TRAVELLERS | DAY 1 | Meet
the representative of your car hire firm at Namibia’s International airport. Transfer to
a small, quiet Game Lodge, en-route to Windhoek. Relax from the long flight and acclimatize to Namibia. (B&B) | | DAY 2 |
A leisurely breakfast and slow start towards the perimeter of the Khomas
Hochland - our central highland. Near the edge of the escarpment, your
first stop for a gradual transition from highlands, to the low-lying
Namib. (B&B) | | DAY 3 |
Breakfasted, and almost acclimatized, the entire family better
have cameras at the ready! After a photographic extravaganza at the
edge of the escarpment, descend into the Namib for your first night
in the Namib desert - self catering units near the Sesriem Gorge and
Sossusvlei dunes. | | DAY 4 |
Wake up before dawn to
travel along the Tsauchab River Valley towards Sossusvlei. After viewing the
changing colours of the landscape as the sun rises, descend and return to
your desert camp for an afternoon Siesta. Late afternoon, explore the
geologically historic Sesriem Gorge. (Self catering).
OPTIONAL EXTRA: (NOT included in safari
price - N$3050 p.p.). Having been to Sossusvlei
on foot, and you feel the inclination, a private operator offers early
morning hot-air balloon flights over the desert and mountains, to see
Sossusvlei from the air.
In the cool,
pre-dawn air, ascend in a hot-air balloon and silently drift high above the
immensity of the Namib desert. From this exclusive vantage point, the
rising sun paints an endless vista of shadow and light over an ocean of sand
dunes and mountains. After about an hour of silently riding the air, descend
and celebrate this unique event with a champagne breakfast in the middle of
the desert. Flight certificates will be presented before the 4 X 4 drive
back to the lodge.
(This could be
managed before continuing to your next venue, as the balloon flight is very early). | | DAY 5 |
Moving further south into the Namib, you will today arrive in an area
of the desert that is constantly described as
"the most photogenic landscape that the Namib has to offer",
something you will witness yourself. (self catering). | | DAY 6 |
The very hospitable owners will be expecting you and are willing to treat you
to Game drives, dune drives and guided photographic tours - NOT
included in the safari price. (Self catering) | | DAY 7 |
To depart from here is not easy, but be assured, your next destination will
be no less spectacular, and take you to the valley between the Tsaris- and
Naukluft Mountains, on the banks of the sub-terranean Tsauchab River -
source of the occasional flooding of Sossusvlei. (B&B) | | DAY 8 |
Besides the local activities offered by the owners, you are within easy
reach of the Naukluft Mountain Reserve, where short, but very rewarding
hikes are available. (A Namibia Wildlife Resorts venue). (B&B) | | DAY 9 | Unfortunately, all good things must also come to an end and today you have to return to Windhoek.
Accommodation in a comfortable bed & breakfast.
Make sure to get a final view of our sunset on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa. | | DAY 10 |
Subject to flight
departure time, you may have all morning for some last minute shopping or
simply browsing the central business district of Windhoek. Transfer to
Namibia's International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight
-
will be coordinated with the car rental representative. |
