 NAMIB DESERT
SAFARI

SAMPLE ITINERARY

DAY 1 Meet your host at Namibia's International airport. Transfer to Windhoek for a quick tour of its sights & sounds. Settle into a comfortable B&B to relax from the long flight and acclimatize to Namibia.
DAY 2
and
DAY 3
No particular rush this morning, sleep in a little if you wish, and enjoy a leisurely breakfast while shaking off the worst jet-lag. Travel directly to the Khomas Hochland (our central highlands), and descend into the Namib towards the first of your desert venues. Tranquillity, breath-taking views and quality are all guarantees during your two-night visit. Besides joining a 4X4 excursion to view ancient rock paintings, there are no less than 10 well-marked walking trails - each presenting a new and more impressive panorama than the one before.
DAY 4 Moving through the shadow of the Naukluft Mountains, be on the lookout for Hartmann's Mountain Zebra. This Reserve, originally proclaimed to protect them, is now part of the Namib-Naukluft Park. After crossing over the Tsaris Pass, arrive at a desert homestead in the valley between the Tsaris- and Naukluft Mountains.
DAY 5
and
DAY 6
After a circular drive - and again descending from the escarpment - arrive in a secluded, "private" valley where you may truly find yourself during the next two nights. Peace & quiet not thought possible by the world at large. Maybe some of the Meerkats are still around to accompany you on your walks around this new environment, depending on you to protect them against the watchful eyes of the hawks and eagles.
DAY 7
and
DAY 8
Although a wonderful lodge exists close to the entrance to Sossusvlei and the Sesriem Gorge, an equally suitable Desert Camp was chosen purely because the lodge could become too busy and crowded. After a short siesta during the hottest part of the day, take a late afternoon drive to explore the geologically historic Sesriem Gorge. On your second morning, be woken before sunrise for a drive along the Tsauchab valley, towards some of the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. You are at own leisure to climb and explore these dunes, and experience the ever-changing earth-tone hues of the landscape as the sun rises. Descend, and enjoy a picnic brunch under age-old Camel thorn trees before returning to camp.
DAY 9
and
DAY 10
Today you will understand the Namib, and recognize the saying: "The desert love those, who love the desert". You will fully realize why we invited you here, and you will appreciate the affect on your quintessence.
Arrive at
a majestic, lone mountain towering over the flat surrounding landscape. At its base, you will spend the next two nights, experiencing how the silence can seem absolute to the human ear. Around sunset, listen to the choir of barking geckos, their voices fading away into the distance.
DAY 11
and
DAY 12
The vastness of the Namib is only equalled by its own diversity and contrasts. While you've experienced wide open, grassy vistas and high sand dunes up till now, the Namib offers endless gravel plains further north, typified by dark green, snake-like lines over the landscape, the hardy Camel thorn trees mark the passage of unseen, sub-terranean water courses and ancient rivers. Arrive at a Namib nature camp for a final opportunity to soak up the desert into your veins, to become an ever-present memory from which you may draw, whenever you need it.
DAY 13 Unfortunately, even good dreams must come to an end, and today you have to return to Windhoek. But, we will not "remove" you from the wilderness & simply "dump" you back into civilization. Accommodation tonight will be at a small, quiet Game Lodge en-route to the airport. Should you so wish, join a sundowners drive to savour your final view of our sunset on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa.
DAY 14 Subject to flight departure time, you may have all morning to enjoy nature walks, finish those last exposures / memory disc space, or simply laze on a pool chair, viewing wildlife at the waterhole. Transfer to Namibia's International airport to arrive in time for your departure flight.
