|
DAY 1 |
Meet your host at
Namibia's International airport. Transfer to a small Game
lodge on the outskirts of Windhoek
to
relax from the long flight and acclimatize
to Namibia. |
|
DAY 2 |
Refreshed
and breakfasted, you should be prepared to meet the
orange-red, linear dunes of the Kalahari desert. |
|
DAY 3 |
A
mountain lodge seems just the place for a transition from the
Kalahari to the depths of a canyon. End your day with a Game
drive in a totally different environment. |
|
DAY 4 |
As
landscape changes are the order of the day on this safari,
enter an area so aptly described as, a veritable layer cake
of the ages - the Fish River Canyon and its environs. Being
this far south in Namibia, a visit to the picturesque harbour
town of Lüderitz is a must. Experience the contrast between
the calm and pleasant bay area, and the typical Atlantic
Fury at Diaz Point. Something much appreciated tonight
when you savour the freshest Oysters and Crayfish,
naturally provided by this same Ocean. |
|
DAY 5 |
Lüderitz,
in turn, is synonymous with the ghost town of Kolmanskop -
proof that time needed to become a ghost town, need not be
counted in centuries! This ghostly atmosphere of a
relatively recent event, will soon be offset by your next
venue, a natural phenomena, much older than the town of
Kolmanskop, but very much alive - the Tiras Mountains,
described as the most photogenic
area of
the Namib. |
|
DAY 6 |
Travelling through the southern Namib today, you will soon
arrive at the geologically historic Sesriem Gorge - a living
text book on geology and proof of the ever-changing face of
Earth. After exploring this fascinating gorge, freshen up for
dinner, served al fresco on a terrace, with paraffin /
kerosene lamps lit after sunset. Dine, while viewing desert
wildlife quenching their thirst at a floodlit
waterhole. |
|
DAY 7 |
Be woken
at dawn for a quick cup of coffee/tea before travelling along
the Tsauchab River valley towards some of the highest sand
dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. When your film/memory card
is full, descend the dune to enjoy a picnic brunch
under age-old Camel thorn trees before returning to your
Moroccan-styled, tented camp to collect your luggage and
continue
across the endless
plains of the central Namib, where you will be treated with a
scenic drive on which you can etch this pristine wilderness
into your memory - forever! |
|
DAY 8 |
Travelling through
two Canyons/Gorges, continue towards the Atlantic coastline to
welcome the cool sea-air after days in the desert. If you are
seafood lovers -
Swakopmund is it! |
|
DAY 9 |
Entire day at own
leisure for winding down. View and photograph the
German-colonial architecture; visit museums; view the largest
mineral crystal cluster unearthed to date - amongst other
glittering treasures of the earth; visit the many stores,
coffee bars and curio shops, or simply laze on the beach -
weather permitting. (Alternatively, you may wish to partake of
any of a number of optional adrenaline
activities offered privately - or a pleasure flight along the
Skeleton Coast. To view some of these activities and their
approximate prices, please click
HERE). |
|
DAY 10 |
Travel
on a salt-surfaced road towards one of the larger Cape Fur
Seal colonies along the Skeleton Coast. An opportunity for
some real close-up photography of these - sometimes
comical - creatures of the sea. Return to the Interior via an
old, restored mining town to sleep in the shadow of the
highest mountain peak in Namibia at the Brandberg. It is not un-common for Desert
Elephants to move through this camp - as this river is one of
their "highways". |
|
DAY 11 |
You are
now in Damaraland, described by many as the region with
Landscapes of the Soul. Today you may marvel at
Nature's artist at work in the miniature valley of the Organ
Pipes; theorize on the creation of the Burnt Mountain, and
enjoy a short but pleasant hike through the Twyfelfontein
Mountains to view one of the largest concentrations of ancient
Petroglyphs (rock engravings). End your day with one of
the most rewarding nature drives, in search of the elusive
desert Elephants. |
|
DAY 12 |
You will
bid Damaraland farewell today - albeit reluctantly - to
continue towards the world famous Etosha National Park. Arrive
at a safari camp about 8 km from the Etosha gate by mid- to
late afternoon. If time allows, you may enjoy your first late
afternoon Game drive into Etosha. |
|
DAY 13 |
Entire
day for wildlife viewing in the section of Etosha as far as
the Halali Rest Camp - where you will arrive in time for
lunch. |
|
DAY 14 |
After breakfast, enter Etosha for a day trip through the length of the
visitors area of the Etosha, to exit at the eastern gate and
arrive at your bush camp in time to relax and freshen-up for
dinner. |
|
DAY
15 |
A relatively early
start today as you will be entering the water wonderland of
the Kavango/Caprivi Region. En-route, visit the mysterious
Lake Otjikoto and stop for a picnic lunch at the largest
Meteorite found on earth to date - the Hoba Meteorite. End
your day with either your first raft cruise on the Kavango
River, or a traditional song & dance welcome. |
|
DAY
16 |
Follow the Kavango
River to a safari lodge, situated on the banks of the river,
at the last bend before the river empties itself out into the
Okavango Delta (Swamps) in Botswana. A sunset boat cruise on
the river will offer the ideal tranquillity in which to end
your day. |
|
DAY
17 |
A visit to the
non-commercialised Mahangu Game Reserve offers Game species
not found in Etosha or elsewhere in Namibia, plus a myriad
bird life! You may wish to enjoy another boat cruise after
your return to the lodge, or relax in or around a welcome
swimming pool. |
|
DAY
18 |
Today will be one
of the longer hauls of the safari as you have to traverse the
entire Kavango region, and exit towards a rustic rest camp.
After arrival, relax and freshen up. On short walks on the
premises you may encounter from the smallest antelope in
Namibia - the Damara Dik-dik - to the largest antelope in the
world - the Eland. From your rustic quarters, you may view
wildlife visiting the floodlit waterhole, right in camp. |
|
DAY
19 |
A comfortable drive
today to arrive at a small mountain lodge in time for a light
lunch. Entire afternoon to relax and reminisce on the past 18½ days, and after dinner, enjoy a final night drive to seek out the
nocturnal animals of this specific region. |
|
DAY
20 |
Unfortunately, all
good things must also end and you have to return to Windhoek.
En-route, enjoy lunch at a small, private Lodge. Not to make
the transition from the wilderness to civilization too abrupt,
you will sleep at a Game-/guest farm en-route to the airport.
End your day with a scenic drive, with a final glimpse of our
Namibian sunset on this, your last night in Namibia, Africa. |
|
DAY
21 |
Subject to flight
departure time, you may have an entire morning to finish the
last few exposures on your film - or space left on your
digital memory card. Transfer to Namibia's International
airport to arrive in time for your departure flight. |
