Swakopmund Architectal and Historical Heritage

Marthin Luther In 1896 Lt Troost attempted to introduce mechanized transport to the interior of the country with this steam tractor. It however came to a standstill at this spot and was thus called "Martin Luther". In 1973 it was restored by the Town Counsel of Swakopmund and declared to be a National monument in 1975. The years took its toll and the tractor seriously rusted away. In 2005 it was taken away to NIMT (Namibian Institute of Mining Technology) in close colaboration with various businesses and instantes and restored to its original condition by the students at NIMT. To protect it against the weather a building was erected to enclose it.
